Sri Lanka 2010

Our Purpose - To teach, train and equip pastors and students on New Testament prophecy and develop Prophetic teams in Sri Lankian churches. Our main focus will be a large conference for the Hill Country Church Planting Ministry directed by Pastor Yoganathan. Pastor Yoganathan has been overseeing the training up of pastors for over thirty years and has planted over 200 churches throughout Sri Lanka. His ministry has had the majority of christian influence in this Buddhist culture.

Sri Lanka produces what many consider to be the world's best tea. Tea plantations are everywhere in the Hill country. Sri Lanka is also know as the jewel box of the world, producing many high quality precious and semi-precious stones.

From 1983 to 2009, there had been a civil war against the establish government by the Tigers of Tamil, a militant organization who fought to create an independent state named Tamil Eelam in both North and South of the island. Both the Sri Lankan government and LTTE have been accused of various human rights violations. On May 19, 2009, the President of Sri Lanka officially claimed an end to the insurgency and the defeat of the LTTE, following the death of the leader of the Tigers of Tamil and much of his other senior leadership.

Sri Lanka's official religion is Buddhism and also has a large Hindu population. By God's grace, Christianity is growing, although, it is met with a lot of opposition from both the Buddhist and Hindu's. Temples and idols are everywhere.

Why should you send us?  - 1. Persecution has significantly increased as the church has been rising up to evangelize their country. 2. At a national level, Buddhist extremists are pushing hard for the government to curtail foreign funding to limit church building and to make christian witnessing a criminal offense. 3. At the local level, authorities are frustrating christian activities making them just about impossible. 4. In the 90's over 35 churches were destroyed, hundreds of Christians assaulted and several martyred. Missionary work has been very restricted by the authorities who have made visas very hard to obtain.

By God's grace we have been granted entry into Sri Lanka. However, we need  financial provision to go and supply the battle lines for our brothers and sisters. Will you please consider helping to strengthen and changed the spiritual atmosphere in Sri Lanka? Thank you for considering this timely oppurtunity. Forever Grateful, Bob Watson
